Letter 9 (25 May, 2014)
Attached are the photos taken in Rome on 19 and 20 of March.
The two are respectively outside the Memorial House and Keats's bedroom,
which was silent as the grave.
I touched the tombstone of Keats and, unawares began caressing it.
The feel of it still remains in my left palm....

Thank you for your cooperation.

Letter 8 (29 August, 2012)
I hope this finds you well in spite of these sweltering hot days!
I attended the WSC between 4th and 9th this month, the title of my lecture this
year was "The Prince Regent: A Life in Caricature." Attached are two photos:
one is Lake Grasmere (taken during a personal morning walk,
the other is the waterfalls at Ambleside, which, as you know, Keats visited
in the summer of 1818, it was a moderate walk from the Salutation Hotel,
which Keats stayed although at that time it was Salutation Inn.

Take care and work hard.
Best wishes,

K Nishiyama

Letter 7 (31 March, 2010)
I came back yesterday.
For our homepage, I attach two photos of the Aegina marbles taken at the Glyptothek in Munich,
which I visited at the end of my stay in London, having no time to send these from there.
Looking forward to seeing you all in April.

Furness Abbey

furness abbey

both were taken at the Abbey and they are, as you know, recounted in The Preludeas part of Wordsworth's memory of childhood.

"Nor is my aim neglected if I tell
How twice in the long length of those half-years
We from our funds perhaps with bolder hand
Drew largelu, anxious for one day at least
To feel the motion of the galloping steed.
And with the good old innkeeper, in truth,
On such occasion sometimes we employed
Aly subterfuge, for the intended bound
Of the day's journey was too distant far
For any cautious man: a structure famed
Beyond its neighbourhood, the antique walls
Of that large abbey which within the Vale
Of Nightshade, to St Mary's honour built,
Stands yet, a mouldering pile with fractured arch,
Belfry, and images, and living trees---
A holy scene. Along the smooth green turf
Our horses grazed. To more than inland peace
Left by the sea-eind passing overhead
(Though wind of roughest temper) trees and towers
May in that valley oftentimes be seen
Both silent and both motionless alike,
Such is the shelter that is there, and such
The safeguard for repose and quiteness.

Our steeds remounted, adnt the summons given,
With whip and spur we by the chauntry flew
In uncouth race, and left the cross-legged knight,
And the stone abbot, and that single wren
Which one day sang so sweetly in the nave
Of the old church that, though from recent showers
The earth was comfortless, and, touched by faint
Internal breeze ---sobbings of the place
And respirations --- from the roofless walls
The shuddering ivy dripped large drops, yet still
So sweetly 'mid the gloom the invisible bird
Aang to itself that there I could have made
My dwelling-place, and lived for ever there
To hear such music." (Book 2. 99-135)

キーツや当時の人々の「美」に大きな影響を与えた『エルギン・マーブルズ』

marble

To what green altar, O mysterious priest,
Lead'st thou that heifer lowing at the skies,
And all her silken flanks with garlands dressed?
What little town by river or sea shore,
Or mountain-built with peaceful citadel,
Is emptied of this folk, this pious morn?

(from John Keats' "Ode on a Grecian Urn")
